Konkani (konk-uh-Nee) is our founder, Akshata's, native language and what started the whole Little Patakha journey. We are thrilled to share it with you!
Konkani is a south Indian language full of distinctive stories, songs, food, and culture amassed over centuries. What is unique about this is that, until relatively recently, it had no official written script of its own. Which means that this language was passed down mostly orally from one generation to the next. Children did not grow up reading picture books in an official Konkani script and only heard the stories and songs from family and friends.
Akshata decided to take a small step forward in preserving the language when she visualized Planet Pathrado (puth-ruh-Doh) for her daughter. She created the alphabet with the Roman script used for English and the result is a first of its kind Konkani language learning picture book. With simple phonetic cues and access to online audio files, kids and grown-ups can easily learn to describe everyday life around them like a native speaker.
